In the image of the Green Man, found throughout the churches and cathedrals of Medieval Europe, we see leaves and branches bending and weaving to make human features. In a very real way this expresses a fundamental truth— that the world of plants creates and supports the existence of human beings on a multitude of levels, from physical to spiritual.

City dwellers may forget this fact but the world-wide shamanic traditions of earth-dwellers remember how to talk to the other kingdoms that share the planet with us.

Everything that is, is because waves of energy are held in a pattern-creating the appearance of solid form.

Sound is also energy in wave form.

The energy of sound can move, vibrate, resonate with, influence, and change the energy of matter. The energy of matter can also be understood in terms of the energy of sound.

Shamanic traditions, knowing the nature of body and mind, employ sound to bring about shifts in perception: what we call trance states.

As vibration, sound and music have an unconscious, immediate and very real effect on the energy pattern that we understand and experience as ourselves.

Choosing certain sequences of sound, certain patterns of energy that reflect the energy of other ‘things’, we can experience a trance state—a shift in our perceptions—that allows us to meet the sentient awareness, the essence or spirit, of any other being.
